APF strongly condemns communication black out and indiscriminate shelling of Amhara towns.

Updated: Dec 23, 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 20, 2023

The APF (Amhara Popular Front) strongly condemns the actions of the regime in Addis Ababa, which has been engaging in state terror against the Amhara people for over four months. This regime has utilized its entire military capabilities, including infantry, special forces, mechanized brigades, and air force assets, in perpetrating these atrocities.

However, the brave resistance led by the Amhara people, particularly the Fano, has resulted in significant victories. They have successfully liberated several cities and towns from the fascist army and have shown unwavering resolve.

Unfortunately, upon suffering heavy losses at the hands of the Fano, the regime has resorted to desperate measures. It has imposed a communication blackout on the Gojam province of Amhara and has been indiscriminately bombarding and shelling civilian areas. Shocking reports from credible news outlets such as the @BBCAmharic and @VOAnews have confirmed the deaths of more than 30 civilians in a single drone strike in Dembecha city. As we release this statement the City of Debre Markos and Dembecha town are being shelled with heavy artillery and drones.

The APF unequivocally denounces these war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the regime of Abiy Ahmed Ali. We are determined to bring all those responsible for these heinous acts to justice. This includes holding accountable both the perpetrators on the ground and those who have given orders for these attacks.

Furthermore, the APF expresses its deep disappointment in the international community's silence regarding these violations. We urge the international community to fulfill its duty of protecting civilians from genocide and to take immediate action to address this dire situation. The APF calls for a united global response to condemn and put an end to the indiscriminate bombardment and communication blackout in Amhara cities and towns. The world cannot afford to turn a blind eye to such egregious acts of violence.
